www.radisys.com RADISYS SOLUTION BRIEF | Radisys Software Defined Broadband Access Services Introduction Telecom and Wireless Service Providers globally are trying to find ways to transform their networks to compete with web scale players. The increasing demand of data coupled with decreasing revenues per user has underlined the need to lower the cost per bit. Communication Service Providers (CSPs) are also taking on web scale players in the digital services domain and need to compete in terms of infrastructure cost, agility and time to market for new services. Radisys Software Defined Broadband Access Services As the highest source of CapEx and OpEx in the network, the current vertically integrated multi- vendor proprietary appliances based implementations of central offices, mobile switching centers, and core networks inhibits CSPs to innovate, be agile, and effectively compete with next generation cloud offerings. In order to meet these challenges CSPs need to change from vendor locked in appliances to an open compute and open source infrastructure where they can exercise better control on the network features used to deliver end services, such as Machine to Machine (M2M), Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and IP multi-media services. Increasingly, forward looking service providers are evolving their broadband network infrastructure to new, next-generation software defined cloud datacenter using whitebox solutions, multi-access edge computing, and open reference architecture.
