We live in an era where everything is connected. Our business and social lives are closely tied to
digital devices and ubiquitous connectivity is our expectation. The demand for high bandwidth
services—such as video streaming, IPTV, conferencing and video surveillance for example—has
contributed to massive growth in subscriber connections and data usage. As a result of this
explosive growth and the increasing demand for higher bandwidth, service provider networks are
being pushed to the limit.
The immense growth of connections and data usage has brought an infusion of revenue growth
for service providers, but this tremendous revenue opportunity is not without its downside.
Countering service provider revenue gains are price compression, regulatory and competitive
impacts, which have Communication Service Providers (CSPs) experiencing narrowing margins
and dwindling ARPU.
