June 2017 RADISYS SOLUTION BRIEF | Radisys M-CORD: The Open Platform for Emerging 5G Applications Summary M-CORD is an open source reference architecture solution built on the pillars of open source SDN, NF V and cloud technologies. It is an ideal vehicle to drive disruptive innovations on both the access and packet core side to provide the end requirements of a 5G network which is mostly being driven around ultra- low latencies and IoT devices. And more importantly, M-CORD allows service providers to experiment with and realize 5G technologies on an LTE network running on M-CORD today without having to wait for all of the 5G standards to be ratified. Moreover, this architecture is an ideal fit for multi-access edge computing (MEC) where a lot of optimizations and innovations can be done at the network edge rather than traversing all the way to the Central Office.
