Industry’s highest performance traffic distribution platform, the TDE-1000 solves service providers virtualized network scalability challenges

HILLSBORO, OR, U.S. – April 13, 2015: Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), the services acceleration company, today announced that TMC, a global, integrated media company, has awarded Radisys’ FlowEngine™ Traffic Distribution Engine (TDE) 1000 a 2015 INTERNET TELEPHONY NFV Pioneer Award. The award recognizes demonstrated innovation and noteworthy developments toward improving Network Functions Virtualization. The TDE-1000 is the industry’s highest performing traffic distribution engine, accelerating new service introduction, while providing maximum flexibility and efficiency for SDN/NFV deployments.

“The growing volume of Internet traffic is comprised of millions of data flows,” said Andrew Alleman, CTO, Radisys. “Network operators and service providers want to understand, manage and monetize these data flows with virtualized network functions deployed in NFV architectures. We designed the TDE-1000 Intelligent Load Balancer to economically classify millions of flows, and distribute these flows to thousands of processing nodes. This award validates our novel approach to solve a key scalability challenge in SDN/NFV deployments.”

To date, mobile operators have coupled together discrete load balancers, edge routers and switches to manage the data traffic entering and exiting next-generation data centers. However, the use of heterogeneous traditional networking components to manage data traffic creates unnecessary complexity and costs. Radisys has developed a game-changing solution with its FlowEngine technology. FlowEngine TDE-1000 brings together key capabilities of layer 2 to 4 network services with service function chaining features, and marries them with an open standard SDN control element to enable a programmatic service-aware environment for a flexible and scalable SDN and NFV-based deployment.

“The service-aware FlowEngine TDE-1000 brings together key data and control plane functions into a flexible and unified system, accelerating the cost-effective introduction of dynamic per-subscriber services,” said Joseph Sulistyo, director of product management, Radisys. “By classifying and steering each data flow at high speed only to the required services, the TDE-1000 quickly enables new time-to-market applications and, in the long run, improves the service availability and continuity of NFV resources. The end result for service providers is significant OpEx savings in the overall NFV architecture in next-generation data centers.”

The FlowEngine TDE-1000 is designed for both data center and telecommunications environments that demand high network throughput, scalability and guaranteed performance in a compact form factor. It delivers wire speed IP packet classification and flow-based load balancing and is capable of distributing up to 1.2 Tbps of aggregate traffic across any third-party NFV infrastructure. When content and service providers deploy Radisys FlowEngine TDE-1000 in their network, traffic reaching their application server infrastructure is already pre-screened, leaving more NFV processing capacity for Layer 7 and application processing. This improves the efficiencies and economics of the NFV infrastructure by allowing a given size of NFV compute resources to support even more subscribers and services.

“Congratulations to Radisys for receiving a 2015 INTERNET TELEPHONY NFV Pioneer Award,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “Radisys’ FlowEngine TDE-1000 Intelligent Load Balancer has demonstrated true innovation and is leading the way for Network Functions Virtualization. I look forward to continued excellence from Radisys in 2015 and beyond.”
