This deployment flexibility allows them to meet their enterprise and residential subscribers' unique requirements for performance and latency. The Radisys SD-PON solution framework can be deployed on standard off-the-shelf servers or cloud platform, which can independently scale and manage multi-vendor white box OLTs. The SD-PON solution framework is built on microservice-based architecture, which allows it to scale based on the number of active subscribers. This results in superior power and resource efficiency. By moving to a white box solution where the software is disaggregated from the hardware, SD-PON significantly reduces OpEx. In the traditional model, CapEx and OpEx costs are passed on as a blended cost from the single-source vendor. With the SD-PON model, CapEx costs are reduced, but the service provider still needs to cover the costs for the silicon, x86 servers and commodity platforms. However, OpEx costs are lowered as SD-PON is a software-driven and an open management solution, enabling service providers to easily make changes or enhancements while leveraging a flexible supply chain of vendors. Broadband service providers globally are embracing the industry trend to disrupt their networks with open telecom solutions. With its disaggregated and open approach, SD-PON will help define how broadband networks of the future are built.
