Demonstrates market readiness of ONAP for commercial deployments with carrier scale VNFs
HILLSBORO, OR, U.S. – February 20, 2018 – Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a global leader of open telecom solutions, today announced that Orange Labs Networks has integrated Radisys’ market-leading Media Server virtualized Media Resource Function (vMRF) in the ONAP (Open Network Automation Platform) “Amsterdam” release. An industry first integration of a complete commercial-grade Media Resource Virtual Network Function (VNF) in the ONAP release paves the way for additional VNF integrations with ONAP, accelerating commercial deployments.
Highlights
- Lack of commonality of vendor platforms and significant customizations required for each carrier environment has been one of the biggest challenges for communications service providers (CSP’s) to rapidly roll out new innovative services. The Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP) project’s recent “Amsterdam” release addresses this challenge by introducing an open architecture for network automation and complete VNF life cycle management to enable innovative and interoperable network and application services at a global scale and reduced OpEx.
- Orange Labs Networks has integrated Radisys’ market-leading Media Server vMRF in the ONAP “Amsterdam” release. With this integration, Radisys and Orange have jointly demonstrated to the industry that ONAP is ready to easily onboard commercial VNFs, paving a path to live deployments for network transformation. As a major ONAP virtual function integrator and VNF provider, Radisys is enabling the ONAP community to deploy open infrastructures based on SDN/NFV that are more cost-effective and scalable, while delivering a blueprint for virtualized real-time voice and video services over 4G/LTE networks.
- The overall solution includes complete cost-effective vMRF lifecycle management of ONAP infrastructure, including elastic scaling, policy driven controls, and zero-touch automation and management, significantly reducing time-to-market and OpEx.
“As we transform our network, we are turning to new innovative and disruptive vendors that will support our move to open source technologies like ONAP to guarantee our software independence and openness,” said Eric Debeau, Head of Network Automation Platform Team at Orange. “With its deep heritage in software, hardware and services for the telecom industry combined with its experience with ONAP, Radisys is helping drive new service creation through enabling virtualization of network services through cost-efficient design, implementation and management.”
“Our collaboration with Orange on this first demonstration of vMRF on ONAP sets the stage for operators like Orange to transform their networks with other commercial VNFs,” said Adnan Saleem, CTO Software and Cloud Solutions, Media Server, Radisys. “We are excited to be able to participate with Orange Labs Networks, and other service providers to not only onboard our VNFs, but also bring the expertise to onboard other VNFs and provide complete ONAP integration services to accelerate delivery of new innovative applications.”
