Nokia Certifies Radisys’ Virtualized Media Resource Function for the Nokia Telco Cloud

Radisys’ OpenStack support enables communication service providers to dynamically deploy and manage MediaEngine MRF instances in the cloud

HILLSBORO, Oregon, USA - February 18, 2016Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), the services acceleration company, today announced that Nokia has certified its MediaEngine™ Virtualized Media Resource Function (vMRF) as fully supported in the Nokia Telco Cloud. Nokia leverages Radisys’ vMRF OpenStack capabilities to elastically spin up, manage and spin down virtualized MRF instances in the cloud on its Nokia CloudBandTM Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure platform. This enables communication service providers (CSPs) to reduce costs by dynamically optimizing media processing capacity in their VoLTE and VoWiFi services when using a Nokia virtualized IMS solution.

Radisys’ Virtualized MRF includes OpenStack support, the industry standard for managing Virtualized Network Functions in private and public clouds. The ability to create MRF instances in the cloud in a standardized way provides CSPs and large enterprises an open, scalable media processing solution that helps accelerate new service introduction.

“With recent enhancements to our vMRF, we’re supporting two important industry trends – the accelerating growth of vIMS deployments, and CSPs’ needs to manage this growth in a fully elastic environment,” said Grant Henderson, vice president, MediaEngine and Corporate Marketing, Radisys. “Nokia is a market leader in virtualized IMS deployments, and this Nokia Telco Cloud certification is a testament to our cooperation with Nokia and continued leadership in advanced media processing solutions. Our MediaEngine vMRF, tightly coupled with Nokia’s cloud-based Open TAS platform, is a winning combination for fixed, mobile and cable/MSO operators requiring scalable media processing for their virtualized VoLTE, VoWiFi and vIMS deployments.”

Nokia, a forerunner in developing Telco Cloud, has developed and tested virtualized network elements and cloud application management together with end-to-end services to support the migration and demonstrate the readiness of cloud technology for commercial deployment.
