Radisys exhibits virtualized end-to-end LTE network functions performance optimized with Intel Data Plane Development Kit

HILLSBORO, OR, U.S. – September 6, 2013 - Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate a complete virtualized LTE network at Intel® Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco, September 10-12. Radisys will exhibit an end-to-end LTE network demo with virtualized small cell, LTE packet core and IMS Media Resource Function, performance optimized with Intel® Data Plane Development Kit. Running on the Radisys T-Series platform, the interactive demo will feature QoS optimized services including VoLTE, Video Optimization and Conferencing with Apple, Samsung and HTC clients. Telecom equipment manufacturers are turning to Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) to better utilize the equipment in their network infrastructure and leverage better cost models, but are challenged to prove their application on cloud platforms and in virtualized environments. Radisys experts will be on hand at IDF to discuss virtualization of network functions and optimization strategies for deployment.

Radisys’ Virtualized LTE Network Demonstration

At IDF, Radisys will demonstrate a complete virtualized LTE network, showcasing the full-fledged functionality of an LTE solution based on cost effective and highly scalable virtualized control and data plane applications as well as Software Defined Networking (SDN) load balancing and traffic orchestration.

The interactive demonstration will feature:

  • Radisys’ Compact EPC solution (including Mobility Management Entity, Serving Gateway, Packet Gateway and Home Subscriber Server) connected by S1 to a Mindspeed eNodeB running Radisys’ TOTALeNodeB™ software solution, delivering high throughput, low latency LTE communications
  • Radisys’ ATCA technology, including a 6 slot 40G ATCA chassis, with virtualized software running on Radisys’ ATCA-4600 Intel® processor
  • Radisys’ virtualized Media Resource Function (MRF) technology at the application layer, showcasing VoLTE, video and conferencing capabilities
  • All capabilities will be demonstrated on the latest Apple tablets and LTE Android smartphones from Samsung and HTC
