I am pleased to share that Radisys’ integrated Self-Organizing Network (SON) solution placed third in the “Wide Area Network – RAN” category in the 2014 Emerging Technology Awards at CTIA’s Super Mobility Week this week. Our Integrated SON Solution combines AirHop’s eSon software with Radisys’ Trillium LTE TOTALeNodeB solution and Broadcom Corporation’s BCM617xx Series small cell silicon.

More than 50 industry experts, analysts and media examined and scored the nearly 300 entries across CTIA’s three programs to determine the finalists and winners of this award. This industry recognition is a great honor, and one that illustrates our leadership in the SON realm, as well as our place at the forefront of LTE innovation.

SON is one of the major focus areas for operators today, as network planning increases in complexity when compared to the days of a static definition for a macro-cell network. Operators now view SON as a mandatory feature for small cell deployments, as they aim to provide seamless capacity and coverage to match user demand for media from a range of devices connected to a range of network access technologies. Reducing the costs of initial small cell rollouts, SON enables more effective coordination of time and frequency resources, providing dynamic interference management.

Now that mobile operators are rolling out their LTE-Advanced deployments, SON-enabled small cells will continue to play a critical role. The Integrated SON Solution from Radisys, AirHop and Broadcom equips mobile operators with a time-to-market advantage for their small cell deployments and allows them to meet the challenges of the changing network paradigm.
