Mobile operators need both Wi-Fi offload and small cells to address traffic growth

October 23, 2012 Jeff Sharpe

This statement was supported by our recent poll of more than 200 mobile industry professionals.

We surveyed attendees during a live webinar earlier this month, and those who responded overwhelmingly voted small cells and Wi-Fi offload as the two top technologies being pursued by mobile operators for mobile data offload. SIPTO/LIPA and offload gateway were the other options.

The webinar, titled “Mobile Data Offloading Optimization,” was the first in our Optimizing Mobile Networks series. During the event, we addressed the benefits and challenges of deploying either Wi-Fi offload or small cells for data offloading, as well as a combination of the two. I was joined by our top-notch systems architects who provided insight and analysis on available these solutions, and how operators can maximize revenue and performance. We wanted to say thank you to all of those who attended and helped make it a successful industry discussion.

Did you miss the webinar? Don’t worry, you can listen to the recording online.
