Media Processing in the Cloud: RCR Hangout Video with Mavenir and Strategy Analytics

May 30, 2014 Ray Adensamer

I recently had a chance to join with Ian Maclean, VP of strategy and marketing with Mavenir Systems, and Phil Kendall, director of Wireless Operator Strategies at Strategy Analytics on an RCR Hangout hosted by RCR Wireless editor Martha DeGrasse. We discussed one of my favorite topics – media processing in the cloud – but the discussion was much broader than that covering operator strategies driving virtualized deployments for VoLTE.
The cloud is on the mind of every mobile operator out there as they move forward with deploying their next-gen LTE networks. Mobile operators are currently evaluating NFV and considering which functions could (and should) be virtualized. We outlined the experiences of some early adopters, including one of our VoLTE deployments with Mavenir that is using virtualized IMS infrastructure, including media processing in cloud.

During this RCR Hangout, Ian and Phil also outlined how operators can differentiate their services. As Ian put it, “Operators need to raise the bar for the user experience” and must provide new services comparable to those delivered by today’s OTT service providers.  Phil also provides the inside scoop on what operators are saying about their virtualization strategies to deliver differentiated services. It’s good stuff and I hope you’ll check it out here: RCR Insights: Media Processing in the Cloud.
